These values have been prepared by campaigning organisations We Shall Not Be Removed, Attitude is Everything, Ramps on the Moon, Paraorchestra and What's Next with the involvement of Andrew Miller, the UK Government’s Disability Champion for Arts and Culture. Andrew is also a Council member of the Arts Council of Wales.
The Seven Inclusive Principles ask all those working in arts and culture to specifically make sure that disabled artists, audiences, participants and employees do not face discrimination as the industry works to get back on its feet and reopen to the public. The principles remind cultural organisations of their legal obligation to support equalities, and provides examples of best practice and links to existing resources.
Commenting today, Nick Capaldi, Chief Executive Arts Council of Wales, said:
“Covid-19 has had an unprecedented impact on people making, enjoying and taking part in the arts and everyone is keen to resume activity as soon as possible.
“This can only happen when it’s safe to do so, but when it does it’s essential that a fully inclusive approach is adopted. A fair and equitable approach ensures that all people enjoy the same opportunities and we expect this to be the case in the arts for deaf and disabled people.”
