Appointed by the Welsh Government's Deputy Minister for Culture, Sport and Tourism, members are chosen for their expertise and experience of the arts in Wales. Members normally serve for a period of three years, although this can be extended for a another three-year term.

Our Council’s main responsibility is to make sure that we invest Welsh Government funding and money from the National Lottery effectively. It also has the following responsibilities: 

  • Setting the strategic direction of the Arts Council. 

  • Developing, implementing and monitoring arts policy. 

  • Agreeing our corporate and operational plans. 

  • Setting the annual budget. 

  • Annual allocation of grants to revenue-funded organisations. 

  • Ensuring that (we) the Arts Council manages its affairs effectively and is accountable.
