UNIG

Welsh: unig

English: alone; lonely; mere; only; sole; solitary.

Being alone and feeling lonely are two quite different things. This is a project about both. Sharings of the work are happening at Volcano, Citrus Arts, and Small World this month.

The team is thrilled to have received funding from Arts Council of Wales CREATE to support the research and development of UNIG.

The plan is to spend lots of time gossiping (a term originally used to refer to close women friendships without the negative connotations) with womxn* from rural and urban areas in Wales, collecting stories about female characters in Welsh folk stories, and researching historical figures who were accused of witchcraft. We will draw from these sources, as well as the life of our very own, Meg, a single 30-year-old woman living in Pembrokeshire to begin the development of a live solo performance that combines dance theatre, aerial hoop and comedy.  Parallel to this we will make a short film combining audio from the interviews with visual imagery and local historical archives.
