This St David’s Day, National Dance Company Wales will represent the strength of Welsh arts on an international platform as they perform at the prestigious Schrittmacher Festival.
Now in it’s 29th year the month-long festival spans three German cities and invites sold-out audiences to experience contemporary dance from all over the world, with companies this year hailing from New Zealand, France, the Netherlands, China, the USA, the UK, Senegal, Germany and Belgium.
National Dance Company Wales will perform over four nights of the festival in it’s stunning Fabrik Stahlbau Strang venue in Aachen – an industrial steel warehouse from 1892 that is transformed each year into a pop up space specifically for the event. The surroundings will make for a striking backdrop to National Dance Company Wales’ residency at the festival where audiences will be treated to the Company’s widely acclaimed double bill PULSE|PWLS, which has been performed to thousands across Wales and the world in 2023 and 2024. Now National Dance Company Wales will represent the nation showcasing the work alongside contemporary dance companies from across the globe

Dance transcends language barriers, so we can take our artform anywhere in the world and share Wales’ artistic prowess in a powerful and meaningful way. It’s especially exciting to be able to showcase our nation’s creativity on St David’s Day”
PULSE|PWLS consists of ‘Waltz’ by Marcos Morau, a glittering and surreal work that leaves audiences on the edge of their seats, and ‘Say Something’ by SAY dance – which reflects on a desire to dance for the pure joy of the artform, without needing to ‘say something’.
Say Something in particular, will also highlight a wealth of Welsh talents including costume design by Welsh artist George Hampton Wale, and a soundtrack including Ebw Vale beatboxer Dean Yhnell / Beattechnique.
