Opening this Thursday, the fourth performance in The Shape of Things to Come (Volcano's annual season of short original performances by freelance theatre-makers) is Never Fully Here by Moana Doll.
It’s a playful show about the in-between immigrant – being not truly foreign but never quite British – especially post-Brexit.
See Moana talking about the piece here.
Moana's influences include Thomas Ostermeier and Falk Richter, who blend dance and traditional theatre, and directors Jean-Luc Godard and Anders Thomas Jensen, and companies like Complicité. She is also passionate about Tanztheater and the groundbreaking work of Pina Bausch.
She is passionate about cultural and linguistic exchange in performances, believing that it is essential for the arts to investigate and mix cultures. Her ambition is to develop work that freely crosses borders, contributing meaningfully to the UK's artistic landscape.
In this year's Shape of Things to Come programme, each artist creates a piece for a set called The Room. The Room is designed and built by Bourdon Brindille.
The programme so far includes performances by Leon Clowes, Arnold Matsena and Ryan Samuel Davies. The last performance in this year's programme will be Juiced to Death by Joanna Simpkins, 12 - 14 June.
