More details have been announced for this year’s Gŵyl Tawe, which returns to the National Waterfront Museum in Swansea on Saturday the 7th of June.
Joining the previously announced Gruff Rhys, will be very special guests Adwaith who will be playing a full headline set before Gruff on the Museum Garden stage. Adwaith return to Gŵyl Tawe following the release of their highly anticipated third album, Solas. Meaning “light of being” or “enlightenment” in Celtic, Solas marks a significant milestone in the band’s journey. Recorded across diverse locations—including the Outer Hebrides in Scotland, Lisbon in Portugal, and multiple studios in Wales - Solas reflects Adwaith’s growth and evolution as artists. Overflowing with romance and magic, this 23-track double album completes a coming-of-age trilogy chronicling their transformation from teenagers into empowered women, exploring themes of self-discovery, escape, and resilience.
Also joining the musical line-up across both the Museum Garden and Ocean Room stages will be EADYTH, Los Blancos, Mari Mathias, Mali Hâf, and Pys Melyn. There is more music still to be announced, including a special closing party at The Bunkhouse on Sunday the 8th of June.
As part of a new project this year, the Museum Garden stage will also be opened by the young, exciting Swansea musician, Manon. A member of the Future Blood music development project for young people aged 15 to 21, Manon has also been a regular attendee of the Clwb Cerddoriaeth at Tŷ Tawe. Despite only starting to write her own songs in the last year, she has already built a keen following with regular gigs around various Swansea venues. In the build-up to the festival, Manon will be releasing her debut single ‘Amrywliw’, in addition to a video recorded through the Lŵp x PYST Music Video Fund.
As well as the live music programme, there will also be a variety of interactive theatre performances and workshops from Mewn Cymeriad, Theatr na nÓg, and Familia de la Noche. The museum’s Warehouse Gallery stage will feature a variety of performances from local schools, while the artist Rhys Padarn will again be offering a workshop enabling attendees to create some special Gŵyl Tawe artwork in his iconic Orielodl style. The museum’s foyer will also host further stalls and activities from Menter Iaith Abertawe’s partners.
Another new project for this year’s festival saw an open call-out for new directors to record a series of live sessions in different venues across Swansea. These will be released through Menter Iaith Abertawe’s AM Cymru channel in the build-up to the event, as well as being shown on the big screen at the museum on the day. Also featured will be a special performance by a group of young people developed by members of Menter Iaith Abertawe’s weekly clog dancing and monthly folk music sessions, led by acclaimed musicians Angharad Jenkins and Rhodri Davies.
The event is free to attend on a first come first serve basis, with the museum opening at 10AM and the entertainment running until 9PM.
Gŵyl Tawe 2025 is delivered by Menter Iaith Abertawe in partnership with Museum Wales, with support from Swansea Council, The Bunkhouse Swansea, Gower College Swansea, and Taliesin Community, and funding from the Arts Council of Wales.
