The opportunity will empower a network of schools to devise and deliver innovative and creative projects that explore the key themes of Cynefin: Black, Asian and minority ethnic Wales.

Inspirational Creative Practitioners will be recruited to work (through the mediums of Welsh and English) on this new creative learning offer for schools.

This offer aims to provide teachers and learners in Wales with the opportunity to:

  • Explore the history and development of Wales as a multicultural society
  • Explore the diverse experiences and contributions of Black, Asian and minority ethnic peoples in Wales, past and present
  • Work alongside creative practitioners with lived experience in a learning environment to enhance the quality of teaching and learning

Charlotte Williams, Chair of the Welsh Government’s working group considering Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic experiences and contributions within the new curriculum said:

“I am delighted to see the launch of this project by the Arts council. This is a truly exciting development. This project represents a significant opportunity to advance the ambition that every learner in Wales will have the opportunity to explore the contributions of Black, Asian and Minority ethnic individuals and communities, past and present.”

“I am excited to see what emerges … to see the development of creative learning strategies that deploy innovative approaches to engagement with these themes and issues and to see the roll out of these examples to schools across Wales.”

Cynefin: Black, Asian and minority ethnic Wales, draws upon the strengths of the Lead Creative Schools Scheme that has helped schools explore new ideas and approaches to teaching and learning over the last 5 years.
