Francis Spufford is the best-selling author of Golden Hill, called by Richard Osman ‘The best book of the twenty-first century’.  This debut novel went onto to win many prestigious literary prizes.  No wonder.  It is a very good read.   It was followed by Light Perpetual that was long listed for the 2021 Booker Prize.

His latest work of fiction is Cahokia Jazz, a thrilling tale of murder and mystery in a city where history has run a little differently.   Again, critics have been full of praise calling it ‘thrilling’, a ‘delight’ and ‘a classic of alternative history’.

Nick Hornby calls him ‘One of the most original minds in contemporary literature’.

He has also written five highly praised works of non-fiction, described by reviewers as ‘brilliant’ and ‘bizarre.’
