The Welsh Government are looking for passionate people who will support the arts in Wales and challenge and influence the work of the Arts Council of Wales by joining its Council of trustees.

The Government and the Arts Council believe that everybody in Wales should have the chance to experience the arts and that public bodies should represent different communities so they can understand the people of Wales and make better decisions.

Dawn Bowden MS, Deputy Minister for Arts and Sport

“We want to tap into and give voice to the ideas of people that aren’t heard often enough. Being a member of the Art Council’s Council of Trustees, is an opportunity to make a real difference to how we represent different community groups on a local level and nationally.”

Kate Eden, Acting Chair of Arts Council of Wales said:

“We need new and diverse voices with a passion for the arts to join us. We will be encouraging applications from the communities and social groups which have been inadequately served in the past by the public funding of the arts. We need people to help us to make the changes needed to break down these barriers.”

The Government and the Arts Council believe that everybody in Wales should have the chance to experience the arts, and that public bodies should represent different communities and lifestyles so they can understand the people of Wales and make better decisions. Applications are particularly welcome from under-represented people. These can include:

  • People from different ethnic backgrounds including black people and non-black people of colour
  • Welsh speakers
  • Women
  • Young people under 30-years-old
  • Disabled people
  • Lesbian, gay, bisexual people
  • Trans people
  • people from communities with high levels of economic disadvantage or poverty

To help the recruitment process, the Arts Council of Wales has arranged Zoom drop-in sessions with current members of the Council. Each session is designed to allow possible candidates to have a 10-minute individual conversation with Council members, to ask any questions they may have, and to get clarification on the nature of the role.

The sessions will be held on-line.

Kate Eden and Elen Ap Roberts - 30 November 2022 , 17.00 - 18.00

Kate Eden and Devinda De Silva - 5 December 2022, 14.00 - 15.00

To book your place, please click here (places allocated on a first come first served basis).

It’s important to note that the purpose of the sessions is to provide opportunities for possible candidates to find out more about the specific role of Council Member from current members. There will not be an opportunity at these sessions to discuss the wider role of the Arts Council of Wales, its actions or strategy.

The closing date for presenting an application has now been extended by Welsh Government to 4pm Tuesday 3 January 2023 (from 12 December).
