Neuadd Dyfi is Aberdyfi's community hall, run by a volunteer management committee.

The hall regularly attracts over 100 locals to shows ranging from circus to theatre, opera, music and dance.

Des George is the hall's promoter.

"Across Wales, hundreds of volunteers are the lifeblood of the Night Out scheme," says Peter Gregory, head of Night Out.

"They’re the ones doing the hard work of organising events, selling tickets, helping the performers and then providing half-time refreshments. Ultimately, they're creating memorable experiences for local people."

Night Out's promoters

During 2017 and 2018, Night Out funded 511 performances in communities across Wales. These were organised by 319 different promoter groups, representing 349 different venues and including 3225 individual volunteers, just like Des.

“Night Out is superb because it allows us to have top-rate professional shows here in our rural community, and gives us and the performers the confidence to ‘take risks’," says Des.

Des has staged all kinds of entertainment and perfomers, from circus to mpera, music, theatre and dance. Last August, 132 people packed into Neuadd Dyfi to enjoy The Crow House by Circo Rum Ba Ba.

"Des George is probably the most enthusiastic promoter we’ve come across. Such energy and commitment to making the theatre space work for the whole community."
