The Arts Council of Wales has begun work to produce a new Welsh Language and Arts Strategy.

The announcement follows our mapping exercise on the use of Welsh in the arts and the appointment of Einir Siôn to our new post of Welsh Language Enabler. We will draw up this new strategy in collaboration with the arts and Welsh language sectors encouraging discussions that will lead to far-reaching results.

Einir Siôn, Welsh Language Enabler, will hold a series of discussions so that individuals and organizations can contribute to the strategy.

Einir said:

"It is key that this strategy is formed in an open and participatory way. We will hold a series of short discussions focusing on actions we can take in the arts. This will not be a platform to air complaints but an opportunity to discuss positive ways of creating change."

The sessions have been constructive and interesting discussions. There is now an invitation to join in the next discussion which will take place on Wednesday 6 April 2022.

The topic of the final discussion for the Welsh Language and Arts Strategy will be ‘Culturally and artistically expanding participation in Welsh language’

The session will be led by Einir Sion, Welsh Language Enabler, and Andrew Ogun, The Agent for Change within the Arts Council. The discussion will ask who are hard to reach in Wales as well as cultural and linguistic approaches to engagement and widening participation.

As usual, we ask for an open, positive and fair discussion that focuses on proactive ideas rather than complaints. The session will be fully bi-lingual with simultaneous translation. Please indicate any further support required when registering on Eventbrite. The registration window will close a day before the event.

The session will be held bi-lingually and simultaneous translation will be available. We want to hear the voices of people who can speak or who are learning Welsh but we also want to hear the voices of people who do not currently speak the Language. Everyone’s views and experiences are key to this Strategy.

Please let us know of any accessible requirements when you register.

If you would like to take part, please register via eventbrite.
