Tanio are looking for a Wellbeing Assistant to support artists and participants at Breathing Space Ignite in Maesteg, which is funded by the Arts, Health and Wellbeing Lottery funding via Arts Council Wales.

Breathing Space Ignite groups run across Bridgend and Pontypridd using creative arts to engage and inspire. Helping to improve the lives of people who are lonely and isolated, who suffer from anxiety and depression, have lost a loved one, and/or struggle with physical and mental health problems.

Our Maesteg group was launched in April 2024, and in a very short time has become a thriving and supportive place for people to explore their creative side, with a focus on creative writing.

Tanio are looking for a Wellbeing Assistant to help this group develop further, and to become an integral part of the delivery of these weekly sessions.

This role would be ideal for anyone who has prior experience or an interest working in the fields of community arts, mental health, wellbeing, or arts and health.

What is required:

The Wellbeing Assistant will help the Artist Facilitator create a friendly and supportive environment that will positively impact the participants’ overall wellbeing. This role will work closely with the artist, providing in-session wellbeing support in weekly 2 hours sessions. This support may include one-to-one support of participants, signposting to third party organisations, and/or in-session crisis management.

Overall Purpose

The post-holders will play a pivotal role in ensuring that the project is accessible to all.

Main Duties and Key Responsibilities
• To work with the Artist Facilitator to help promote the smooth running of sessions. Welcoming participants into the group, helping with drinks, supporting the set up and making sure the space is clean and tidy at end of the sessions.
• To provide pastoral and emotional support for participants at the weekly sessions, coordinating with the Artist Facilitator where applicable; communicate observations, feedback, and concerns to the Programme Manager and Facilitator as and when is necessary.

Organisational Requirements
• Up to date DBS check (we will provide this if you are successful and don’t have one)
• Maintain a high standard of professionalism
• Working to maintain confidentiality at all times when recording or collecting data for the project
• Comply with Tanio’s Health and Safety Policy and statutory regulations

• Have a friendly and warm demeanour
• Good communication and soft skills
• Have some experience at supporting others in participatory arts setting or health/wellbeing/mental health settings.

Terms and Conditions
Nature of engagement: Freelance (self-employed) contract
Place of Work: Maesteg Library
Fee: £55 per session
Delivery: Weekly on a Thursday 11 – 1pm
Contract length: 6 months starting October 2024 – with option to extend for further 6months.
