In the year that Under Milk Wood enters the public domain, Volcano returns to the play that we were banned from performing by the Dylan Thomas estate all those years ago.

Under Milk Wood opens this Thursday at Volcano's Swansea High Street home, and runs until 21 December.

Described by Nation.Cymru as "punk-rock Dylan on acid for the 21st century", Volcano’s 2024 version begins by evoking the famous 1953 reading in New York, before enclosing the audience with the inhabitants of Thomas’s fictional town in the nighttime envelope of their lyrical, anarchic utopia. It's a close-up, colourful, sensory experience, with a soundtrack ranging from Tom Jones to Stravinsky.

The five-strong cast includes a wealth of talent and experience in theatre, television, film and radio, from Wales and beyond.

Featuring Christopher Elson, Aisling Groves-McKeown, Richard Lynch, Jonathan Nefydd and Olivia Sweeney

Directed by Paul Davies
