Beacons Cymru’s pioneering project Resonant is delighted to announce the continuing partnership between themselves and the iconic Welsh music venue, Clwb Ifor Bach and one of the UKs leading new music festivals, Sŵn.

Resonant provides exciting opportunities for young women, trans men, non-binary and gender non-conforming individuals wanting to pursue careers in non-artist roles within the music industry. Resonant hold their events at safe learning spaces, presenting bespoke training packages and holistic support for attendees. The aim of each event is to strengthen the community, meet local role models and peers and to gain valuable insight into a range of behind the scenes roles in the music industry.

Resonant events range from Queermas at The Globe in Cardiff, showcasing Queer local talent Telgate, Banshi and Kitty. Their panel talks & workshops have included topics such as Nightlife and Live Music, featuring Alexandra Jones (Porter’s), Kristen Kiis (The Globe) and Ivy Kelly (Lone Worlds), Music Production with the talented Millie Blooms, Sound Technology with Basehma Hall, Lighting and Design with Cara Hood and their most recent success on DIY in the Music Business with Luna Priestley.

The origins of the project stem from current Project Officer, Yasmine Davies, who identified a lack of support and opportunities in Wales for marganlised genders. Now in its second year, the project continues to enhance its reputation and has already seen previous participants gain a foothold in the Welsh music industry.

Yasmine says “The partnership with Clwb Ifor Bach is not only important to our goals, but to the career progression of the marginalised individuals on our project. Being able to hold our shadowing sessions in an esteemed music venue, with managers and technicians that we trust and understand the ethos of the project, is an invaluable contribution to the quality of work experience for those on our project.

Clwb have been key to us building a safe environment for our participants to learn and develop their skills this year. The collaboration has also led us to provide even more exciting opportunities than our first year of activity. We are pleased to say the 10 participants on Resonant have all been offered paid work at Sŵn Festival this October.

This addition to our project is all thanks to Clwb Ifor Bach.”

Clwb Ifor Bach is an independent music venue championing grass roots music throughout Wales for 40 years, located at the heart of Womanby street, Cardiff. It hosts hundreds of live music events every year, is a vital venue on the UK touring circuit with the likes of Biffy Clyro, The Killers, Coldplay, Super Furry Animals, Foals and more having played at the venue in their early years. In 2018, Clwb was handed the keys to the prestigious Sŵn festival, which has given early festival slots to Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Vaccines, Easy Life, Self Esteem, Sam Fender and more. This year’s festival is looking to be another vintage year with Chroma, Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs, Sage Todz, Pip Blom, Los Blancos and many more already announced!.

"Collaborating with Resonant has proven to be a remarkable journey," remarks Joe Marvelly, Technical Manager at Clwb Ifor Bach. "We are genuinely pleased to align ourselves with Resonant’s mission of empowering marginalised gender identities. We view this as an excellent opportunity to unite our efforts, especially in the context of Sŵn Festival."

The partnership between Resonant and Clwb Ifor Bach will greatly encourage and enhance the opportunities presented to people of marginalised genders.

Resonant is part of the Beacons Cymru portfolio, which is a pan-Wales music organisation, for young people, by young people, which aims to provide advice, opportunities, networking and support to those who need it whilst pursuing a career in the music industry
