A free event dedicated to exploring creative approaches to access with and for visually impaired people is coming to Bangor this November. Vertical dance artist Kate Lawrence is collaborating with Disability Arts Cymru and the North Wales Society of the Blind to present “Out of Sight”, a daylong event exploring how the arts can become more accessible and inviting for everyone. This exciting event will take place on November 16, 2024, from 10:30 AM to 5:00 PM at Pontio, Bangor.
"Out of Sight" promises an eclectic day of screenings, performances, works in progress, talks and discussions, designed to engage and inspire visually impaired and blind individuals, as well as arts organisations and artists committed to fostering inclusive practices.
Event Highlights Include:
• Welsh Premiere of "Yn y Golau": A stunning vertical dance film by Vertical Dance Kate Lawrence (VDKL), featuring integrated audio description.
• Launch of Online Access Resource: Join Joanna Wright and Kate Lawrence as they unveil an essential resource for artists aimed at enhancing accessibility.
• Touch Tour: The Body Speaks: A unique sharing of research and development led by Mish Weaver, Karina Jones, Alex Ashcroft and Kate Lawrence, focusing on sensory engagement.
• “Holes” Aerial Hoop Performance: Experience this captivating performance by visually impaired artist Karina Jones and Daisy Williams, complete with an integrated audio description.
