Our Voice Network, in partnership with Sherman Theatre, are launching the 2024 Our Voice Bursary which will support two artists of the Global Majority to develop as storytellers and to develop connections in the arts sector in Wales.

The 2024 Our Voice Bursaries are aimed at those with no formal or professional experience as writers but who are passionate about storytelling, and as such the two recipients will be chosen through an open selection process.

The successful applicants will be supported for one year (Sept 2024 – Aug 2025) and will receive:

  • monthly mentoring sessions with Sherman Theatre staff to support their development as storytellers;

  • support from artist and Our Voice Network founder Krystal S. Lowe including application and CV writing, feedback on ideas, finding jobs and opportunities, and building connections with people in the arts sector to support ongoing career development;

  • a public showcase of their work-in-progress in the 2025 Our Voice Sharing held at Sherman Theatre, produced by Krystal S. Lowe; and

  • a £500 bursary to support expenses and time to develop their art-form.

Sherman Theatre will support the bursary recipients to take part in paid work placements throughout the year, at Sherman Theatre or elsewhere.

Applications for the 2024 Our Voice Bursary will open on Monday 1 April 2024 and close on Sunday 30 June 2024.

Launching the 2024 Our Voice Bursaries, Krystal S. Lowe said: “As Our Voice Network steps into its third bursary year I am thrilled to partner with Sherman Theatre to offer an incredible opportunity for artists of the Global Majority to develop as storytellers. Often, the definitions of art forms are so narrow that we stifle innovation. Through this year’s bursary, I am passionate about empowering and supporting the development of a new generation of innovative storytellers to share their stories with us all.”

Joe Murphy, Artistic Director of Sherman Theatre, said: “We are honoured to support the 2024 Our Voice Bursary, which echoes Sherman Theatre’s vision of a world made more equitable by theatre. The opportunity to gain from Krystal’s expertise and experience in the field is unmissable, and the possibility of discovering and developing fresh talent is incredibly exciting.”
