About the role

We are looking for a skilled and proactive Media and Communications Officer to raise the public profile of the Arts Council of Wales and to actively promote a clear and positive understanding of the Council’s role in supporting and promoting the arts.

In this varied role, you will lead on media relations, develop effective campaigns, and create engaging content across digital and traditional platforms. You will work closely with colleagues and stakeholders to convey key messages, and support both internal and external communications. You will also contribute to strategic planning, crisis communications, and policy development.

About you

You’ll bring significant experience in media relations and communications, with a strong track record in managing campaigns, media engagement, and content creation.
You’ll be confident working in both Welsh and English, with excellent writing and interpersonal skills, and the ability to build strong relationships with media, partners, and internal teams.
A creative thinker with strategic insight, you’ll thrive in a fast-paced environment, balancing multiple priorities while maintaining high standards and attention to detail.

Welsh language

We work in both English and Welsh. Fluency in Welsh (both written and spoken) is essential for this post. You will need to be able to communicate in both English and Welsh in meetings, individually and in public. We are looking for an individual who understands the culture of Wales; the diverse relationship of the people of Wales with the Welsh language and who is committed to ensuring a progressive use of Welsh linguistically and culturally within the Arts Council and the wider sector.

Everyone has their own story with the language, and we recognise that confidence levels vary from person to person. We need someone who is confident and fluent in Welsh for this role.

Diversity and Inclusion

Arts Council of Wales is an inclusive employer, and we wish to reflect the diverse communities we serve. Applications from culturally and ethnically diverse people and underrepresented groups are encouraged and warmly welcomed. Applications are welcomed in Welsh or English and we will correspond with you in your language of choice. Applications submitted in Welsh will be treated no less favourably than applications submitted in English. We aim to take positive steps to ensure that all candidates are selected for jobs solely on their suitability for the role.

The Arts Council will provide support to ensure that you feel comfortable joining the organisation, the type of which may be new or unfamiliar to you, so that you can feel your best self at work. Mentoring or training will also be provided during the induction period, if required.
