"Culture is a powerful tool for fighting climate change," the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales Sophie Howe said on the closing day of COP26.

The Future Generations Commissioner for Wales hosted 'Climate, in the Visceral Sense. An Ongoing Story in Three Acts' on Friday 12 November 2021, at the Green Zone in COP26, in collaboration with Wales Arts International; Eisteddfod Genedlaethol Cymru; global design studio IDEO; Size of Wales; arts project Ynys Blastig, and Taylor Edmonds (the Poet in Residence for the Future Generations Commissioner for Wales).

This came as the final day of evens at the Green Zone, as COP26 draws to a close, although it most definitely represented a continuation, as we look to Wales Climate Week and beyond.

"The story you create will live on beyond you in the beating blood of future generations. Make it count, make it heard" - Taylor Edmonds

We also heard from Sophie Howe following the event, who spoke about the importance of leaving a better world behind for future generations. Watch the full message from Sophie Howe below.

The Poet in Residence for the Future Generations Commissioner is part of a partnership with Wales Arts International, Literature Wales and Welsh Government. The current poet Taylor Edmonds recently shared 'Emerging From Winter' - a project that saw her collaborate with people in Llanrwst in the Conwy Valley. The voices of the young schoolchildren of Ysgol Bro Gwidyr can be heard voicing the poem, which was written from accounts made by members of Llanrwst Flood Action Group. Llanrwst is an area which has suffered extensive flooding over the past few years, and this poem is a poignant reminder of the action we need to take for future generations.

We look forward to hearing more reflections from the summit from our #PethauBychain guest curator Marc Rees in the following weeks.

You can join our Wales Climate Week event on the 26th of November 'Curtain raiser or show-stopper: Is the climate emergency a gamechanger for international work in the arts?' where we discuss rethinking international work and touring with a panel of experts.
