Arts Council of Wales has extended its warmest congratulations to Wrecsam on reaching the short list of four finalists for UK City of Culture 2025.
Commenting today, Arts Council of Wales Chair, Phil George, said:
“At the Arts Council of Wales we are absolutely delighted that Wrecsam County Borough has been chosen as one of the four finalists for the UK City of Culture 2025 - the only bid from Wales to have reached the final four.
“Wrecsam has long been a key part of the north Wales cultural landscape and has shown through projects such as the award winning Tŷ Pawb redevelopment the importance the local community place on culture and the arts. The Tŷ Pawb redevelopment saw the old people’s market and car park transformed into a groundbreaking arts centre, with capital funding from the Arts Council of Wales.
“The bid team have done remarkably well to reach this final short list after a record twenty bids were received by the UK Government’s Department of Culture, Media and Sport. We look forward to seeing the bid team now develop their bid further in preparation for the final decision on the 2025 City of Culture, to be announced in May.”
