The Arts Council of Wales is celebrating in film some of the fantastic work undertaken by the arts sector in Wales during the Covid-19 pandemic – as well as highlighting some of the severe challenges it has faced.
Commenting today, Arts Council of Wales Chief Executive, Nick Capaldi said:
“We know about the worrying effects that Covid-19 has had an on our economy, our culture and our way of life, but even in the midst of the worry and concern there have been remarkable things to celebrate. The lockdowns have deprived artists and arts organisations of the one thing they exist to do – to create work and connect to audiences. But as the sector has reacted to the suspension of all public activities and a collapse in the living and working environment, the arts sector has found innovative and exciting ways of protecting and sustaining their sector.
“The projects featured in this short video show imagination, practicality and openness. You’ll see examples of just a small sample of the excellent work that’s taken place. undertaken by the sector. It’s a celebration of success and resilience that points to the possibilities of a more optimistic future. It recognises the challenges that the arts have faced since March 2020 – as well as pointing to some of the lessons learnt for the future”.

Notes to editors:
- The video has been produced by production company Auntie Margaret, following an open tender process.
- The sector, and Arts Council of Wales staff were invited to nominate projects for inclusion, but sadly, as with any short video, it was impossible to include all the good examples of work that took place during the pandemic.
