Jên is an experienced leader in the field of participatory arts and dance. She has a history of successful collaborations with organisations such as Theatr Soar in Merthyr, Cardiff University, Disability Arts Cymru, Wales Millennium Centre, Welsh National Opera and ArtWorks Cymru, the National Eisteddfod and many other organisations.
Jên said that she is delighted to be joining the team at Artis Community, which focuses on providing high quality art experiences of real benefit with people of all ages in the central valleys region.
The new CEO of Artis Community, Jên Angharad said:
“Artis has a proven track record of engaging people in the arts and I am thrilled to be working with their talented staff and committed group of volunteers.
“We live in exciting times for the arts – a time when there is growing recognition of the health, wellbeing, social and community benefits of participation in creative and cultural experiences, as well as the positive impact that creative learning and teaching processes can have on achievement in our schools.
“My ambition for Artis is that we build on the successes of recent years – I strongly believe in the possibilities that can be created when we work together and I’m looking forward to fostering creative collaborations and sharing expertise and learning with a diverse range of organisations and sectors in our region.
“Let’s show the world the creative powerhouse that we know the Valleys to be.”
Artis Community Chair, Jonathan Huish said:
“I’m so pleased to be able to unveil such a talented and experienced individual as Artis’ new CEO. Jên has worked with us in the past and knows both the challenges we face and the exciting creative potential that exists within our communities.
“I am looking forward to working with her to boost the cause of participatory arts in this area, and to seeing what benefits her own personal touches will bring to our organisation’s work.”
Jên succeeds Wendy York who announced that she would stand down earlier this year after ten years in the role.
Jonathan Huish added:
“On behalf of the whole board, I would like to thank Wendy York for her leadership, passion and commitment over the past ten years. Wendy has worked tirelessly for Artis Community and our community, and we wish her all the best for the future.”
