There is a feeling to language that we can sense. This is a resource that offers ways to enjoy linguistic sensibilities and use them confidently and creatively.

The Welsh Language Art Consortium and Welsh language Enabler are developing this resource. We believe that Welsh can be placed at the centre of creativity regardless of a person's level of linguistic skill by being playful with it and sensing it. In the world of the creative individual the responsibility of placing the Welsh language at the centre is borne by the individual. This is the way it is.

This resource offers you guidance and ideas on how to use, include and present Welsh within your creative practice. The resource will grow and evolve as we trial and find new approaches. Before we start putting Welsh at the centre of creativity one must know 10 important things to ensure that it will not be included in a tokenistic or negative manner.

  • Welsh is a minority language therefor space and time needs to be created for its use.
  • The Welsh language belongs to everyone regardless of background or language ability and everyone can contribute to its continuity and growth.
  • Language is a skill that can be learned by anyone, but it is also an integral part of a country's culture.
  • The value of the Welsh language to the society we live in should be recognised.
  • Everyone can use the Welsh language to create unique art.
  • There is room to be playful and creative with the Welsh language.
  • The prosperity of the Welsh language is a source of global celebration and can connect people and cultures.
  • Support needs to be offered to use, own and celebrate the Welsh language.
  • We need to look to the future, remembering the past and listening to all ages in planning and implementation.
