Groundwork are inviting applications for two new roles with the Groundwork team. Both roles will work remotely to support the programming, curation, management, marketing and delivery of our Stabilisation program.
5 month contract (with potential to extend pending further funding)

Who are we looking for:
We are looking for people with knowledge of and connection to contemporary dance in Wales. Applicants need not have previous experience in similar roles. They must share our desire to support dance artists across Wales and have a willingness to learn project curation/management skills. They should be organised, computer literate and willing to work as a team.
- For one of the roles we are looking for a person of colour, black, of Asian descent or dual heritage.
- For one of the roles it is essential that you are a fluent Welsh speaker; we especially encourage you to apply if you live in North Wales or another region outside of Cardiff.
Groundwork’s mission is to support, nourish and connect independent dance artists in Wales.
Our vision is to enable a community of dancers, movers and makers to fulfill their artistic potential.
We offer development opportunities and artistic encounters, including classes, workshops, discussion events, residencies, mentoring and sharing of practice.
Groundwork is an artist led organisation, formed in 2015 by a group of independent dance artists in Wales hungry for training, and creative input. Groundwork continues to support the dance community and is now recognised as a crucial part of Wales’ dance infrastructure. Currently the team consists of Deborah Light, Lara Ward and Zosia Jo, operating as a non-hierarchical team and making decisions collectively, while each taking responsibility for particular aspects of our provision and tasks related to delivering the program. We work in creative partnerships with organisations including Chapter, NDCWales, Rubicon, University of South Wales, Cardiff Dance Festival and Dawns i Bawb nurturing a network of support for dance. We aim to continually respond to the needs of the community we support and are uniquely placed to do so as artists ourselves.
Why we are recruiting
Groundwork are now launching a new interim program to support dance artists across Wales through the Covid 19 crisis. Our key priorities for this program are to increase our diversity and accessibility.
We are aware that the current, and the founding, Groundwork team members are a homogenous group; white, South Wales based women, with similar tastes, life experiences and perspectives: we do not reflect the diversity of brilliant dance artists working across Wales. We have been working to address that within our programming and we regret that a number of planned events in Spring have been cancelled due to COVID-19. We also recognise that we haven’t, to date, done enough – or acted quickly enough – to address this. Our planned program for 2020-2021 would have seen many changes and we are grateful that ACW stabilisation funds will now allow us to put those changes in place. We will be taking action across our program to make it more diverse, to make it bi-lingual, to increase our accessibility and to extend our support for dance artists across Wales. A key priority is to have diverse voices responsible for curating and delivering our program: we are therefore re-distributing core hours across a bigger team.
We will train our new team members in our systems, so applicants need not have previous experience in similar roles, just be organised, computer literate, willing to learn and work as a team.
Essential (skills you need to have now): We are looking for people with knowledge of and connection to contemporary dance in Wales. The successful candidate will be a dance/movement artist or someone with passion for working with / supporting dance. You will have good communication skills, be organised and able to manage your time. For one of the roles only, it is essential you are a fluent Welsh speaker.
Desirable (skills you might have, or you might want to develop): Some knowledge of / engagement in the Groundwork program; knowledge of / engagement in the wider dance sector; knowledge of or interest in accessible dance practice; a desire to work towards a diverse dance culture; a good working knowledge of microsoft excel, word, gmail, social media (facebook, instagram, twitter).
We keep flexible hours and you’ll be required to manage your own time.
16 hours per month to be spread according to work requirements and your own schedule.
To include one weekly meeting as a team the timing for which will be agreed collectively.
