The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is the world’s largest arts festival. Every year, thousands of performers come to Edinburgh for three weeks during August. This is Wales, Edinburgh Showcase, is our externally-curated showcase that promotes the highest-quality Welsh theatre, dance and circus.

The programme is inspired by the values and ambitions set out in our Corporate Plan, For the Benefit of All, and our International Strategy, Yn Bont o’n bro i’n byd.

This is Wales, Edinburgh Showcase supports arts organisations and creative professionals to realise their international ambitions and expand their creative networks.

Our world-class artistic offer has a unique Welsh quality that resonates globally. This programme offers a chance for our companies and creative professionals who are showcase-ready to develop markets and find ways of enhancing their work outside of Wales.

Who will be representing Wales this year?

This is Wales Edinburgh Showcase 2019 brings eleven of the very best of Welsh shows across theatre, dance and circus to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Find out about the shows here.

The carbon footprint

The Arts Council of Wales adheres to the principles of the Welsh Government’s Well-being of Future Generations Act. This means that we consider the future impact of our decisions and programmes of work, operating wherever we can in a sustainable and environmentally-aware manner.

To this end, we are committed to working with our This is Wales, Edinburgh Showcase artists and partners to negate their environmental impact. In 2019 we will be working with a new partner, Size of Wales, to help mitigate the programmes’ carbon footprint while helping to raise awareness of the importance of forests in tackling climate change.

Seeding for the future

Seeding for the Future is a development programme that enables both emerging and established artists and producers to take their work to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the first time. In 2019, we announced a partnership with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe Society to support both our This is Wales, Edinburgh Showcase awardees and our Seeding for the Future cohort at the festival through networking access and workshops.

The programme runs alongside This is Wales, Edinburgh Showcase and focuses on developing diversity within the Welsh arts ecology.

The work in relation to This is Wales, Edinburgh Showcase, is carried out in partnership with the Arts Council of Wales’ in-house international agency, Wales Arts International, the British Council, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival Society.
