Gwynedd Council, on behalf of a range of stakeholders is developing a nomination to secure World Heritage Site status for the Slate Landscape of North West Wales

The Slate Landscape of Northwest Wales is located in Gwynedd, comprising six key areas. The landscape demonstrates the spectacular story of evolution from a sparsely populated upland agricultural society to one dominated by the slate industry; with towns, quarries and transport links carving their way through the Snowdonia massif down to the iconic ports.

More information regarding the nomination can be found at

Alongside the work to develop the nomination, Gwynedd Council have secured funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, Snowdonia Partnership Fund and Arloesi Gwynedd Wledig to work across the slate communities of Gwynedd to empower, reconnect and regenerate those communities through heritage. This is referred to as the ‘LleCHI’ (your place) scheme.

We are keen to commission permanent artwork installation at Allt Ddu, Dinorwig. This may be creative work such as a sculpture, but we are particularly interested in artwork that has practical uses eg a bench, bike rack, shelter, information station etc.
